What is an extras calling service for background actors for TV, film and commercials?

Simple definition of a booking or calling service:

A booking service is the liaison between the casting director and the background actor. This service provides background casting directors with submissions of available actors around the clock. Casting directors can then call the services to do a multiple of tasks: book actors, change call times, cut actors from a call, request additional information on the actor, request specific submissions, and the list goes on. Basically, it’s the ‘wrangler’ for a group of BG actors. If you are new to the industry a good call in service is an introductory way to get acclimated into TV or movie sets, not to mention a great way to meet new people!

In addition, these services are free to any and all casting directors. The company’s monies are made from the background actor for services rendered. Its average cost is approximately $70.00 per month.
